Located in the uplands of Bali, Ubud is often toted as the islands’ crafts and dance capital.  Home to Hindu temples, outdoor markets and iconic terraced rice patties this culture rich locale tucked away amidst a rainforest canopy is a must visit for anyone looking to round out their coastal Bali experience.

Some of our Ubud favorites include:

Sacred Monkey Forest

Elephant Safari Park

Tegenugan Waterfall

Outdoor Market

Tegallalang Rice Terraces

Organic Coffee Farm

Uluwatu, Bali

The Bukit peninsula is located on the southern most tip of Bali.  It is home to picturesque beaches and world-class waves.  The path to many of the Bukit beaches wind down steep cliffs and aren’t necessarily the easiest beaches to get to with kids. There are a few options like Dremaland Beach that are much more accessible for families with young children.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Uluwatu Surf Villas.  Situated on the Uluwatu Bluff and equipped with a private staircase down the cliff to Temples, one of Kahana’s favorite lefts in Bali, He was able to slip out to catch a few waves while the kids and I spent the day lounging and swimming in our villa’s private pool.

The Bukit is a great escape from the busy streets of Kuta but the tradeoff for this serenity is a lack of easily accessible restaurants (especially at night).  In any case here are a few of our favorites:

Canggu, Bali

Located just northwest of Seminyak, Canggu is widely known for it’s surf, ricefield views and private villas.  The beaches of Canggu have long been celebrated by traveling and local surfers and have become much more popular for both visiting tourists and young ex pats looking to make bali living a part of their day to day life. Like most places on this trip, we felt as though we could have easily hunkered down for weeks on end to take in all of the new retail, restaurants and bars that have popped up in the past few years, but listed below are a few of our stops during our most recent visit to Canggu.
