California Adventure with the Subaru Ascent
October tends to be a travel month for our family. Our work responsibilities slow down, the summer crowds lighten, and California begins its casual transition into our favorite season, fall. This year we had the opportunity to partner with Subaru to take their all-new Ascent on a good old Kalama family road trip. It’s the largest Subaru ever, and its three rows of seating, perfectly suits our family of five.
Last year at about this time, we were in a coffee shop in San Sebastian, Spain, when we met two people on their annual father/son trip. We got to talking about road tripping in the US and they highly recommended a trip up through the Russian River and into wine country. They pretty much plotted out the exact trip we ended up taking… It’s funny how that sort of thing manifests when you’re open to it.
We retraced our normal path up through Big Sur, where we scored some amazing surf. From there we pushed north into San Francisco to visit Sarah’s sister Suzi and a few of our favorite spots in the city. We then took a few days to drive up through Jenner and stayed in an airstream along the Russian River. We headed into Sonoma before making our way back down through Monterey, continued onto Ojai, and enjoyed one last stop in Malibu.
We’ll be updating the destinations portion of the site with a few of our favorite spots from the trip. But for now we want to give a huge thanks to Subaru and everyone who made the trip possible.
