Kahana and I have always loved coming to Balboa Park. However, we’ve always been a little disappointed by the lack of non-touristy food and drink options. We stumbled upon Panama 66 after discovering that our favorite band, The Mattson 2 was scheduled to be playing a show there. We arrived with kids in tow and quickly realized that Panama 66 was the experience we had always craved.
Located adjacent to The San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park, Panama 66 is the newest endeavor by the good folks behind the Blind Lady Ale House and Tiger!Tiger! The restaurant boasts a rotating menu of locally sourced food and an extensive assortment of craft beer, wine and craft cocktails.
One of the things that makes Panama 66 so special is the San Diego Museum of Art sculpture garden that doubles as Panama 66’s kid friendly outdoor lawn. Feel free to enjoy your food in the restaurant or grab a drink and sprawl out on one of the blankets they provide in their outdoor lawn. We’re usually there with friends every Friday night. We usually post up on the lawn with a couple of beers, one adventurous appetizer and one item from the kids kitchen.
Hours are seasonal so be sure to check the San Diego Museum of Art schedule for Panama 66 and all hosted events – Here.
